Monday, May 6 (DES MOINES, IA) – It was another successful book sale for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland! The spring sale raised $209,865.94 -- about $5,000 more than the fall book sale. All of the money will support Planned Parenthood’s education and community outreach programs.
“We’re delighted that so many book lovers support Planned Parenthood,” said Planned Parenthood of the Heartland President and CEO Jill June. “Year after year, shoppers come back to the sale to find new books and unearth new treasures.”
More than 8,000 shoppers from across the Midwest traveled to the Iowa State Fairgrounds for the five-day sale, finding more than 600,000 new and used books, collectibles and more.
“The goal of the sale is to help support our education department,” said June. “Book sale shoppers really are making a difference in the lives of Iowans.”
Funds from the sale help Planned Parenthood provide around 3,500 trainings to more than 56,000 young people and adults every year. Recently, Planned Parenthood’s education programs were nationally recognized for excellence from the Planned Parenthood Federation, for leadership and outstanding work with the homeless youth population in Des Moines.
The 2013 Fall Book Sale will be held October 10-14.
