July 1st, 2011 (DES MOINES, IA) – Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (PP Heartland) and Planned Parenthood of Southeast Iowa (PPSI) today announce their merger is complete. The combined affiliates are now operating under the name Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, serving 74,000 clients across Iowa and Nebraska.
"This merger is about providing quality health care to more women, men and families in Southeast Iowa. Fifty percent of Iowa women who need family planning services are unable to access care. Our top priority is expanding care for these women," says President and CEO Jill June.
The merger will also provide expanded services including adoption referrals, sexual assault exams, male cancer screenings, prenatal care, age appropriate education programming and more.
"By joining forces as one affiliate, it enables our organization to take advantage of increased efficiencies and economies of scale. Utilizing our collaborative resources we can serve more clients throughout Iowa," says June.
June will continue in her role as the President and CEO for the merged Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. The joint administrative office will remain in Des Moines.
Planned Parenthood of the Heartland recently announced intent to merge with Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma by January 2012. Afterwards, PP Heartland will operate more than 30 health centers in Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.
Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has served women and men of all ages in the Heartland since the mid-1930s. Today the agency offers a full range of quality reproductive health care services to residents in Nebraska, and Iowa.
