Sex Education in Nebraska

Trained educators throughout Nebraska provide sex education to youth and adults in their communities. Planned Parenthood is committed to providing sex education that is nonjudgmental, medically accurate, and culturally responsive.

Education Programs

Our educators are trained to present age-appropriate programs for a number of audiences in a wide variety of settings including elementary, middle, and high schools; colleges and universities; after-school programs; juvenile justice, adult incarceration, and substance abuse facilities; family programs; agencies serving people with disabilities; health centers; faith-based communities; community organizations and events, including health fairs; and more. We offer programs that can be presented as a single session or as a series of sessions on topics including:

  • Human Growth and Development: Anatomy, puberty, reproduction, body image, menopause, gender identity and sexual orientation.
  • Healthy Relationships: Families, love, dating, consent, parenting, interpersonal relationships.
  • Communication Skills: Decision-making, role-playing, refusal skills.
  • Sexual Health and Behavior: Abstinence, safer sex, masturbation, contraception, pregnancy options, unintended pregnancy prevention, cancer screening, gynecological exams, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and HIV/AIDS.
  • Society and Culture: Gender roles, gender identity, sexual orientation, LGBTQ inclusivity, sexuality in the digital age, sexuality and the law.
  • Planned Parenthood: History, reproductive rights, patient services.

Teen Council Omaha

Teen Council is made up of diverse students from local high schools in the Omaha area. They strive to create a council with members who have different beliefs, viewpoints, and backgrounds; and they actively work to build a group that is anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-homophobic. No prior knowledge about sexual health and prevention issues is expected.

Askable Adults Matter (AAM)

  • Askable Adults Matter (AAM) is a stand-alone training that prepares adults who support youth ages 11-19 years of age how to be more approachable and knowledgeable about adolescent sexual and reproductive health.  It provides information, resources and skills enabling them to  a be proactive in referring youth for sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH). Youth-serving professionals who complete the training will be able to provide accurate, age-appropriate information, youth-friendly referrals, and other needed support to youth in positive and affirming ways

Elevatus

When it comes to talking about sexuality, people with disabilities are often excluded; almost as if they’re incapable of having sexual thoughts, feelings and needs. In reality, they too are sexual beings who need the information and skills for making healthy decisions about sexuality. Though agencies who work with people with developmental disabilities know that sexuality issues need to be addressed, they often don’t feel comfortable or competent enough to do so.  We have trained educators that can provide sexuality education for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities ( IDD) and train staff and caregivers how to provide this education.
