PrEP is a pill you take once daily to help prevent HIV. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast now offers PrEP and can help you determine whether it's right for you.
How does it work?
When taken every day, PrEP can provide a high level of protection against HIV, and is even more effective when combined with condoms and other prevention options.
Who is PrEP for?
It's available for people with clinically identified risk factors for HIV to help prevent you from contracting HIV. It's an option for you, regardless of your gender or sexuality.
How much does it cost?
PrEP is covered by most insurance programs, but if you do not have insurance, we can direct you to medication assistance programs that may help pay for PrEP.
PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, which is a daily drug regimen to help prevent HIV. It involves a daily pill called Truvada that can help those at increased risk avoid HIV. Truvada contains two antiretroviral medicines that interfere with HIV’s ability to grow and take hold in the body once one is exposed to the virus. When taken daily, the risk of contracting HIV can be reduced by more than 90 percent.
