The Planned Parenthood community is truly heartbroken over the devastation Hurricane Harvey has wrought on the greater Houston community. We have been checking in daily and I'm so grateful to let you know that all our staff members are safe. Some of our colleagues have endured significant damage to their homes and vehicles, and we are doing our best to tend to our team and lend support to them and all in need.
I am equally thankful to report that today we re-opened all of our health center locations in Houston and in Louisiana. We are seeing patients and rescheduling missed appointments due to our closures. We are committed to being here for our patients and all individuals who rely on us to stay healthy. We are truly living our promise to care. No matter what. And we know that with your support and strong community partnerships, we will do everything we can to meet the growing needs for essential care.
Over the last few days we have experienced one of the worst natural disasters in Houston's history and have witnessed some of the best examples of our common humanity. As the flood waters recede, and countless acts of compassion and generosity fill the void left by Harvey, we are so proud to see our city come together.
We are #Houstonstrong and will we get through this together.
At this time, many of you may be tending to the immediate needs of your community and loved ones. Perhaps you have already spent hours volunteering to serve those displaced by the storm. Whatever you are doing to tackle the aftermath of this natural disaster, we want you to know our team is thinking of you. PPGC is currently assessing the needs of our staff and the Houston area communities we serve to coordinate volunteer efforts. If you are interested in joining our volunteer efforts to bring relief, please email [email protected].
Our hearts go out to so many across our region who have suffered so much and the many who are suffering still. We are looking forward to lending a hand and helping our neighbors get through this crisis.
We truly are stronger together. And, together, we will get through this.
