Latine/x Educación

Durante más de 20 años, el Programa Promotora en Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) ha servido a la comunidad latina/hispana brindando sesiones educativas, tanto en español como en inglés, que comparten información médicamente precisa sobre salud sexual y reproductiva. Nuestras sesiones se pueden entregar a audiencias de más de 5 personas, virtualmente o en persona. Una Promotora, o Promotorx, es un Trabajador de Salud Comunitario (CHW) con licencia que promueve la concientización sobre la salud en toda su comunidad. Latine/x Education

For more than 20 years, the Promotora Program at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) has served the Latinx/Hispanic community by providing educational sessions, in both Spanish and English, that share medically-accurate information about sexual and reproductive health. Our sessions are delivered to audiences of 5+ people, virtually or in-person. A Promotora, or Promotorx, is a licensed* Community Health Worker (CHW) who promotes health awareness throughout their community. Contact our Promotorx team today and set up a health session for your friends, family, and community. PPGC Promotores support communities in the state of Louisiana and Southeast Texas. 

*CHW Licensure is only available in Texas. CHWs in Louisiana do not need a license.

* PPGC is proud to offer all of our education programs in English and Spanish. 

Lo Que Estamos Buscando

El programa Promotora de PPGC está buscando candidatos que estén interesados y apasionados por la educación para la salud en lo que respecta a la salud sexual y reproductiva. Las personas voluntarias de Promotora ayudarán a informar a la comunidad sobre los servicios de atención médica de PPGC y promoverán la educación sobre temas de salud reproductiva asistiendo a eventos de presentación/divulgación. Este programa es específicamente para la población de habla hispana en las comunidades Latine/x.

What We're Looking For

Our Promotores program is seeking candidates who are interested in and passionate about health education related to sexual and reproductive health. Promotores volunteers will help inform the community about PPGC’s health care services and promote education on reproductive health issues by attending tabling/outreach events. This program is specifically for the Spanish-speaking population in the Latine/x communities.

Program Objectives
  • Promote the importance of routine health care, like Pap tests or cytology (which, for people with a uterus and cervix, is one of the best ways to prevent cervical cancer). 
  • Increase breast health awareness. 
  • Share the benefits of family planning methods and the importance of prenatal care during pregnancy.
  • Increase understanding of the impact and symptoms of sexually transmitted infections as well as the consequences if they are not treated.
  • Support parent and child communication about topics related to sexuality.  
  • Reduce sexual and reproductive health stigma 
  • Provide professional development for CHWs and community members to build their capacity to discuss sexual and reproductive health

Objectivos del Programa
  • Promueve la importancia de la atención médica de rutina, como las pruebas de Papanicolaou, también conocidas como citologías, (que para las personas con útero y cuello uterino es una de las mejores formas de prevenir el cáncer de cuello uterino). 
  • Aumenta la conciencia sobre la salud de los senos.
  • Comparte los beneficios de los métodos de planificación familiar y la importancia de la atención prenatal durante el embarazo.
  • Aumenta la comprensión del impacto y los síntomas de las infecciones de transmisión sexual, así como las consecuencias si no se tratan.
  • Apoya la comunicación entre padres/madres/cuidadores e hijxs sobre temas relacionados con la educación sexual.
  • Reduce el estigma de la salud sexual y reproductiva
