“Waste no time on anger, regret, or resentment, just get the job done.”  — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg from remarks delivered at the National Museum of Women and the Arts in Washington, D.C., April 2015

On Friday evening it was announced that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died of complications due to pancreatic cancer. This is a devastating loss for our nation, and our movement. Justice Ginsburg was 87 years old and was a fierce warrior with a brilliant mind. She dedicated her life to fighting for justice and advancing women’s constitutional rights, including abortion. She fought tirelessly because she knew what it felt like to be dismissed, underestimated, misrepresented, and overlooked.

She was our champion; and we will do everything in our power to ensure her legacy is honored. At this pivotal moment in our nation, we must and will fight to honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy and make our voices heard. The future of women’s constitutional rights, including and especially the right to abortion, are at stake. At her confirmation hearings, Justice Ginsburg said, “I would like to be thought of as someone who cares about people and does the best she can with the talent she has to make a contribution to a better world.”

Today, we mourn the loss of an icon; but we will transform our despair into action in the days and weeks ahead to honor her legacy. Leadership at Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund will meet this weekend to ensure that we engage our vast network of supporters, patients, and activists across the country to do the best we can to honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy.

Onward!
