Pullman Planned Parenthood Reopens Health Center Damaged in Arson Attack

PULLMAN, Wash. — Six months after a firebomb destroyed the Planned Parenthood health center in Pullman, we will reopen our doors to patients February 1st, and hold a special community celebration and ceremony on Friday, February 5th from 11:00-1:00pm at 1525 Southeast King Drive in Pullman. This is a momentous occasion, and we are immensely proud to continue services to the thousands of people in the region who rely on us for birth control, STI testing and treatment, annual exams, cervical cancer screenings and treatment, comprehensive education, and more.

The ceremony will feature presentations from PPGWNI CEO, Elected Officials, a patient, blessing from Palouse Clergy, ribbon cutting, and open house.

“We are overjoyed to be returning to our Pullman health center and reopening our doors on Southeast King Drive. We’ve been serving the Palouse community for 30 years, and we are honored to be the provider of choice for the thousands of students, women, men and families who rely on us for high-quality, compassionate reproductive healthcare and education,” said Karl Eastlund, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho.

The renovations needed to reopen the health center were drastic after the building incurred extensive damage as a result of the firebomb. Construction crews stripped the interior of the building down to its studs before installing all new walls, ceilings, carpeting, and fixtures. All furniture, medical equipment, and appliances also required replacement. The facility received significant security upgrades, including cameras and exterior lighting.

“Over the past six months, we were deeply humbled by the generosity of this community. We owe our quick recover to the resolve of our patients, Palouse Clergy, the Smith-Barbieri Progressive Fund, the staff and readers of the Seattle Stranger, and all those from the Palouse and across the globe who reached out and rallied around us and our patients. You sent a strong message that Planned Parenthood is here for good and we will not be intimidated or threatened by extremists,” said Eastlund.

PPGWNI serves approximately 3,000 patients in the Palouse region. Overall, full healthcare services were only interrupted for one month while the healthcare provider established a temporary health center in Pullman. Many patients were also able to coordinate with PPGWNI to receive their birth control prescriptions through the mail, a service which is regularly offered through the One Less Trip program.
