Election season is here. November 7 is around the corner, and we at Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio (PPGOH) are here to remind you that your voice and your vote matter. You can create change in your community by registering to vote and voting in every election. Every election matters.

Here’s what you need to know about registering and voting here in Ohio:

Voter Registration Status

Are you unsure of your current voter registration status? No worries. You can check your voter registration status on Ohio’s election website.If the information is up to date, then you are all set! If not, see the Updating Your Registration section of this blog below for tips and tricks.

How to Register to Vote in Ohio

In Ohio, there are three different ways to register to vote:

• Register online (Only takes about 2 minutes.)

• Download the Voter Registration and Information Update Form and send it to your board of elections or the Secretary of State’s office by mail.

  • You also may ask a county board of elections or the Secretary of State's office to mail a voter registration form to you.

• Obtain a voter registration form, and register to vote in person at numerous locations in your area.

Important Registration and Voting Dates for General Election in November 2023

• Deadline to Register to Vote: October 10

  • Register online: October 10
  • Register by mail: Postmarked by October 10
  • Register in person: October 10

• Military & Overseas Absentee Voting: Begins September 22

• Early In-Person Voting: October 11 and includes the Saturday and Sunday before Election Day.

• Absentee Voting by Mail: Begins October 11

• Election Day: November 7 (Polls Open 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.)

Who Can Register to Vote in Ohio?

• A citizen of the United States

• At least 18 years old on or before the day of the general election

• A resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election

• Not be incarcerated (in prison) for a felony conviction under the laws of the United States, this state or any other state of the United States

• Not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court

• You haven't been permanently disenfranchised for violating the election laws

Updating Your Voter Registration

Have you recently changed your address or name? Make sure you update your voter registration by October 10 to be ready for your voice to be heard in this upcoming election.

If you have legally changed your name, you must update your voter registration to reflect the name change by using the Voter Registration and Information Update Form. Name changes cannot be processed online as the voter’s county board of elections requires an updated signature with the new name on file.

To update your address, you can use Ohio's online voter registration system or the Voter Registration and Information Update Form.

You may cast a provisional ballot on Election Day if you recently changed your address and did not update your voter registration before the deadline. If you have changed your name but did not update your voter registration, you may vote a regular ballot rather than a provisional ballot as long as you have not moved to a new address outside of your voting precinct.
