Planned Parenthood of Greater New York is teaming up with New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and Queens Public Library to get out the count for Census 2020!

The census is a headcount of everyone living in the United States. It takes place every 10 years — it’s a right for every person who resides in the U.S.

Because whether you’re into books or reproductive health care or both (who isn’t?!), the census is critical to making sure every single one of our neighborhoods and communities gets the resources they need and deserve. 

We want to hear from YOU about why the census is so critical. Enter our social media contest to share with us why you’re getting out the count, and you could win fun prizes from both the libraries AND Planned Parenthood!

HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST:

Step 1:

Follow @PPGNYAct, @NYPL, @bklynlibrary, @qplnyc on Instagram.

Step 2:

Tag 3 friends in the post on @PPGNYAct's Instagram to remind them to be counted.

Step 3:

Comment on the post with why the census is important to you.

Prizes for each winner (subject to availability):

  • 3 books based on recommendations from Brooklyn Public Library + 5 books based on recommendations from Queens Public Library

  • $50 gift card for Brooklyn Public Library online store

  • Planned Parenthood t-shirt

Contest Rules

The Competition is open only to residents of New York State who are 18 years old or older. 

Starting on Monday, August 3, 2020, a winner will be selected each week for the 3 weeks of the Competition Period ending on August 21, 2020. 

Limit one (1) entry per person per week during the contest period. Subsequent entries in the same week will be disqualified. 

Re-entry into the contest each week is permitted. Entrants can re-enter by:

  • Comment on the post with why the census is important to you, and tag 3 friends to remind them to get themselves counted. Your comment and tagged friend must be different from your prior comment. 

  • Entrants who are reentering do not need to re-follow @PPGNYAct, @NYPL, @bklynlibrary, @qplnyc on Instagram.

Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements for entry.

The contest will be judged by staff working on census outreach from PPGNY, Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Public Library. 

 This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram.

By submitting any content as part of your entry to this Contest, you understand and agree that the Sponsoring Entities (PPGNY, NYPL, BPL and QPL) shall have the right to use that content, including your name/username and likeness, in connection with the Contest, without further consent or compensation. By participating in this Contest, you agree to be bound by the Rules, and you represent and warrant that you meet the eligibility requirements. All entries will be judged based on the following criteria, in the sole discretion of the panel of judges. 

  • Completion of all three requirements to enter the contest

  • Appeal of the subject matter of the written comment; and

  • Geographical diversity and borough diversity

All judging criteria will be weighed equally. The winner will be announced in a comment on the Instagram post tagging the winner.
