The Supreme Court has ended the federal constitutional right to abortion, allowing states across the country to restrict, and even ban, abortion care. This decision robs millions of people across the country of their right to control their bodies and personal health care decisions, giving it to politicians and leaving them without access to safe, legal abortion.

Is abortion legal in New York?

Yes. Abortion is still safe, legal and accessible at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York health centers and abortion clinics across New York state.

Now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, how does it impact the future of abortion access in New York?

Abortion is still safe and legal in New York State. The Reproductive Health Act of 2019 secures the right to abortion in New York State despite the court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. That means all New Yorkers and people from out-of-state who seek health care services in New York State can legally access abortion.

I know someone who is struggling to connect to an abortion provider. How can I help them?

I desperately want to help connect people to the health care they need. What should I do?

We know that banning abortion does not take away people’s need to access abortion care. Harmful abortion bans disproportionally impact communities that are already forced to overcome systemic barriers to accessing quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care. This is especially true for communities of color, immigrants, families with low incomes, LGBTQ+ individuals, and all people who hold intersectional, marginalized identities.
