Statement from Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri President & CEO Laura McQuade on Litigation Against Kansas Senate Bill 95
For Immediate Release: June 1, 2015
“Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri has been working in close coordination with the groups who filed today’s lawsuit, and we fully support their case. We hope the court rules on the side of Kansas women and protects women’s access to safe, legal abortion. Planned Parenthood fought this dangerous law from day one, working alongside a broad coalition of other health care providers and advocates to educate lawmakers about its harmful impact to women. Our number one priority is ensuring that women in Kansas have access to the reproductive health care they need, and to that end we are continuing to evaluate all of our options, including potential litigation.”
“Planned Parenthood is deeply concerned that Governor Brownback and the Kansas Legislature have put women in harm’s way by banning the safest method of second trimester abortion, a move opposed by medical authorities nationwide. We also know Senate Bill 95 to be part of an agenda to ban abortion in Kansas and across the country.”
“Planned Parenthood will continue to fight for the needs of the women in Kansas and expose all extreme political measures aimed at denying women access to health care and at undermining their decision-making ability. And, as always, we will continue to be here to provide high quality health care to Kansas women and families.”
