Comprehensive sexuality education offers a medically accurate curriculum that provides young people with positive messages about sex and sexuality as natural, normal, and healthy parts of life. Planned Parenthood is a leader in providing sex education in the U.S., including our communities in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho and western Washington. Our Global Programs draw upon this expertise to provide technical assistance to our partners to help ensure that their young people receive reliable information about sexuality and reproductive health.
Increasingly, the global health community is recognizing the importance of early adolescence (ages 10 to 14 years) as a window of opportunity to impact sexual and reproductive health outcomes (World Health Organization, 2015). Planned Parenthood Educators work with pre-adolescents and adolescents on a variety of topics including family planning, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, puberty, bullying, pregnancy, intimate partner violence, gender, sexual orientation, and life skills. Through our Global Programs, our Educators can adapt trainings, curricula, and experiences working with youth in the U.S. to new settings.
