Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands is committed to supporting professional development within the sex educator community by providing new and innovative training, tools and resources to enhance folks’ abilities to deliver comprehensive and high-quality sex education. Our Spark*ED online sex educator courses focus on the information, skills and theory required to deliver impactful and inclusive sex education. Self-paced courses are designed to build a participant’s knowledge to prepare them to deliver accurate sex education in their community.
Our philosophy towards sex education is at the heart of the Spark*ED curriculum. All course material is created with a social justice and racial equity lens and incorporates the latest information and research in the fields of sexual health, gender, adolescent development, learning styles, and behavioral change. Each course has been reviewed by content matter experts, including medical professionals, trainers, classroom teachers, school administrators, public health workers, and researchers.
We are a diverse and dedicated group of sex educators who are combining our experiences to bring you eLearning that will ignite student interest in comprehensive sex education. For more than thirty years various professional communities in the northwest and the Hawaiian Islands have relied on Planned Parenthood training programs for leadership and experience in the field of human health and sexuality. We were the first nonprofit of our kind to harness the power of the internet. In 2004, we migrated our 18-month human sexuality education program to an eLearning platform called Planned Parenthood University (PPU). Spark*ED is the re-invention of this capacity building program.
