We at Planned Parenthood are proud to join many other large companies and organizations participating in the #StopHateForProfit campaign.
This campaign calls for a stop to advertising on Facebook and its subsidiaries for all of July, an estimated blow of $70 billion to the tech giant in a strong statement that it should do more to discourage hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and violence on its platforms.
Our affiliate proudly and unregretfully stands with the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and other national organizations in #StopHateForProfit because the harm created by white nationalists using Facebook to create a culture of violence against Black people, to engage in widespread voter suppression, and to give hateful websites undue credibility is very real and very dangerous.
We happily stand with #StopHateForProfit by putting our money where our mouth is. The funds that would have gone to Facebook and Instagram ads will instead be dedicated to local news sources owned by people of color, and other platforms that do not tolerate bigotry and hatred on their platform. Following the lead of BIPOC-led organizations, Planned Parenthood calls on Facebook to #StopHateForProfit because #BlackLivesMatter.
