It’s been a year since we celebrated the grand opening of Planned Parenthood’s Honolulu health center and administration hub on South Beretania Street.

Last February, the health center officially opened its doors, offering services to patients in the Honolulu community, as well as acting as a hub for telemedicine and digital services and a centralized location for patients traveling from other islands. We were joined by many supporters, including Senator Mazie Hirono, who (again!) expressed her support for Planned Parenthood and for reproductive rights and access.

The new health center replaces an older Honolulu facility that was greatly in need of updates and space for growth. The impressive new facility signifies the commitment and partnership Planned Parenthood shares with Hawaiian communities to maintain and fight for access to reproductive health care for all.

Since the merge of Planned Parenthood of Hawai`i with Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest, this has been one of our greatest opportunities – to invest in present and future community, and become stronger together.

With a large, modern and well-built headquarters, Planned Parenthood is now in a position to continue to expand and maintain access to reproductive health care across the state of Hawai’i.

Deighton Kavarne, Planned Parenthood’s Area Service Director for Honolulu, said of the new building: “We are over the moon with our new health center. This is a permanent place and fixture in our community! Being in a position to increase access has been an ongoing need in Hawai`i. Having eight exam rooms drastically increased our ability to meet our patients’ needs.” Kavarne added: “This is a huge accomplishment to pull off in a very troubling and extraordinary time in our history.”

In the past eleven months, the Honolulu Health Center has seen almost 6,000 patients, not counting online/telemedicine visits.
