This year has shown we are at a critical moment in the fight for reproductive health care. As abortion bans and attacks on our freedom to make our own health care decisions increase, each of us play a vital role ensuring all people receive cancer screenings, fact-based and shame-free sex education, affordable birth control, gender affirming care, and more – when they need it – no matter what.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to take away our federal right to abortion with the overturning of Roe in June, PPGNHAIK was quick to respond to the needs of patients across our states. We expanded telemedicine and increased capacity for in-person appointments, so providers see more patients in a given day. This is especially crucial for the patients we serve in rural and remote areas.

We expanded family planning services, including reducing the cost of contraception. At our Tacoma Health Center, we increased the gestational age of abortion services and now offer sedation services to keep our patients as comfortable as possible. This will allow us to better serve patients who might be delaying care because they are traveling from a state with an active abortion ban.

The PPGNHAIK education team has also been busy delivering LGBTQ+ sex education through the IN·clued program in all six of our states with grant funding from the Wellspring Philanthropic Foundation and state funding from the Washington Department of Health (DOH). When asked about their favorite part of the workshop, one participant said, “I was the most interested when we discussed the different kinds of birth controls, protective wear, etc. you can use. I didn’t know much about these things beforehand.”

PPGNHAIK currently offers vasectomy services in Anchorage (AK), Meridian (ID), and at five of our Washington locations, and, beginning in early 2023, vasectomy services will also be available in Indiana.

All this work would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our donors.

Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), recently joined Rebecca Gibron, CEO of PPGNHAIK,  for a conversation with donors in Seattle. They discussed our visionary plan to meet the needs of patients at a local level; to rebuild our rights for generations to come; to implement higher standards based on inclusion and belonging; and how PPFA is supporting these efforts across the country.

This movement’s work was highlighted in November’s midterm elections where abortion services and other reproductive health services were at the forefront of local and national conversations. Voters across the country confirmed loud and clear most people believe everyone deserves, including abortion. Thanks to strong support from donors like you, we at PPGNHAIK are and will continue pursuing every legal angle we can as we fight back against the draconian and cruel abortion bans in our states.

We are all leaders in reproductive rights, and there is no stopping us in our unapologetic fight for abortion access and health equity in the U.S. We look towards 2023 empowered for the long haul.

Thank you for being with us.

PPGNHAIK operates 35 health centers across our six states. In 2022 through November, our clinicians have worked with 93,654 patients through 160,772 unique visits.
