Press Release 05-28-13: Statement from Ruth Lytle-Barnaby, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Delaware
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
Welcome to Planned Parenthood of Delaware! I am thrilled to be the new CEO of such a wonderful organization.
For more than 80 years the mission of Planned Parenthood of Delaware has been to ensure the right of all individuals to access the appropriate information and the services necessary to make and act on personal decisions related to their own reproduction, sexuality and health. We work hard every day to live up to that mission.
For those of you who may have heard speculation and falsehoods about our services in recent months, I want to provide clear information. Patients are our top priority, and we insist on the highest professional standards of care. Like all high quality health care providers, if we become aware of any deviation from these standards we take swift corrective action. We cannot directly address some of the speculation because we are constrained from discussing patient-related issues by federal laws and by our own commitment to medical privacy; however, I can assure you that our doors have always remained open, we are providing our full range of services, and all of our staff are highly trained and meeting our promise of quality care. Patients can get information about services and hours on our website or by calling one of our three health centers.
More than 90 percent of what we do is preventive care. Each year, we provide confidential, compassionate care that includes breast cancer screenings, birth control, prevention and treatment of STDs, Pap tests, sexual health education, abortion, and health counseling to more than 11,000 women, men and teens.
Maintaining the valued trust of our community is of the utmost importance, and that is why our medical standards and guidelines are informed by the most trusted medical knowledge as well as published recommendations and guidelines of professional and scientific organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the United States Preventive Services Task Force, and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. We operate under the regulatory authority of the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, which has conducted a number of surveys in recent months to ensure we are meeting the state's high standards.
