Planned Parenthood Calls for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Immediate Resignation In Response to the Conclusion of the Attorney General’s Investigation
For Immediate Release: Aug. 4, 2021 (Updated: Aug. 4, 2021, 4:12 p.m.)
ROCHESTER, NY – We at Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York trusted the Attorney General and her ability to complete a thorough and unbiased investigation. The investigation has been completed, we are outraged and appalled by the actions of the Governor and call for his immediate resignation.
This deeply disturbing pattern of behavior from the Governor cannot be ignored. Andrew Cuomo has no
right to lead an office, let alone the State of New York. New York needs leadership that upholds trust, dignity, and integrity within our state’s highest office.
Statement from Robin Chappelle Golston, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts: “The Governor was extremely inappropriate in his attempt to use survivors’ stories and experiences to discredit the allegations against him. This demonstrates a fundamental lack of empathy and understanding that his actions were wrong. Every person deserves the opportunity to have their story be respectfully heard, and to work in an environment free of harassment or retaliation. We honor the bravery and courage of those who have come forward.”
The Governor should heed the calls of thousands of New Yorkers and resign his position immediately.
Hearing this news today can be validating for survivors as it acknowledges these traumatic events took place,” says Mary Jo Marino, Director of Outreach and Education at RESTORE. “It can also be incredibly triggering for survivors, and we want our community to know help is available. RESTORE has stood with survivors of sexual assault for nearly 50 years and will continue to do so today, tomorrow and always – no matter what. “
There is no place for sexual harassment or misconduct—not in the workplace, not in life outside of the workplace, and certainly not by the elected officials charged with protecting our well-being. We trust and believe those who come forward to hold accountable people who have abused their power.
