ROCHESTER, N.Y., SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 – Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York has raised $6.8 million toward a $7 million goal for its Campaign to Care, the organization announced at a press conference today. Planned Parenthood launched its capital campaign in 2016 to support the first facility upgrade in 25 years for two of its busiest health centers in Syracuse and Rochester.
Attending the press conference was Michelle Casey, Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York’s newly named president and chief executive officer.
“I’m so proud to be joining Planned Parenthood at this exciting time,” said Casey. “We’ve opened the public phase of Campaign to Care with our goal in sight, and we can all look forward to the quality care and education it will provide for the young women and men of Syracuse and Rochester.”
Dr. Rachael Phelps medical director for Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York, is encouraged by support for the campaign.
“We offer first-rate health care,” said Dr. Phelps. “Now our facilities will reflect that high standard of care. I am proud to be part of a community that supports equity in health care. Women with money have always been able to access the health care they need. Everyone deserves that access – no matter who they are or how much money they make.”
Representatives from the offices of United States Senator for New York Kirsten Gillibrand and Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren attended the event, which officially kicked off the public phase of the capital campaign with the reveal of its website, CareGreatly.org. There, supporters can donate to the campaign, as well as track and share its progress through social media with the hashtag #CareGreatly.
