ROCHESTER, N.Y., SEPTEMBER 8, 2016 – Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) has named Michelle Casey as the organization’s president and chief executive officer. Casey’s appointment is effective September 19.

“Planned Parenthood is more than a job; Planned Parenthood is a mission,” Casey said. “I have worked for 30 years to help make our communities healthier by improving people’s lives through access to good health care and education. I’m excited to continue my work with an organization that serves as an essential health care provider in Central and Western New York.”

Casey joins PPCWNY from Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency, where she served as the agency’s chief program officer. In that role, Casey led the development and sustainment of the agency’s program-related initiatives. She also served as an advisor on innovation strategies to the New York State Department of Health.

“We are thrilled to have Michelle Casey as the new leader of our organization,” said Mary Alice Liotta, Chairperson of the Board of PPCWNY. “Her professional qualifications, combined with her passion for providing services to help people make educated decisions about their health, make her an ideal fit for Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York.”

An accomplished leader, Casey has experience in management, leadership, administration and teaching. She has held positions at the University of Rochester Medical Center, the Monroe County Department of Public Health, and PathStone and DePaul Community Services, where she currently serves as a member of the board of directors. She is also board chair of the Mental Hygiene Community Services Board for Monroe County Office of Mental Health, and an adjunct faculty member of the University of Rochester’s School of Public Health Sciences.

Casey replaces Mary Curtis Meacham, who has served since April as the interim chief executive officer during the search for a new CEO. This followed the departure of CEO Karen Nelson, who was named president and chief executive officer at Planned Parenthood of Maryland in March.

Casey holds a Masters of Public Administration, with a Health Care emphasis, from the State University of New York College at Brockport. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St. John Fisher College.
