Say, “Happy Valentine’s Day,” with a condom and no STDs

PHOENIX — In recognition of National Condom Week, which kicks off on Valentine’s Day and goes through February 21, Planned Parenthood Arizona and Fascinations are urging sexually active individuals to talk to their partners about the importance of using condoms to protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and unplanned pregnancy. Sex can be safe and fun; condoms help make that happen.

To help Arizonans have safe sex and not become part of the 19 million individuals who are diagnosed with an STD each year, Fascinations will be providing its customers with free Proper Attire™ condoms from Planned Parenthood Arizona with any purchase on Valentine’s Day at all ten of its Arizona locations. These stylish condoms are designed to make women and men feel comfortable and confident while they carry protection.

“As a trusted health care provider, Planned Parenthood knows firsthand the power of education to help people make responsible decisions about their health. Planned Parenthood Arizona encourages individuals to start a dialogue with their partners about condom use,” says Carol Bafaloukos, Director of Clinical Care and Practice Standards. “Data shows many people who have a sexually transmitted disease don’t even realize it. It’s important to let your partner know you want to use condoms every time you have sex to keep both of you healthy.”

The conversation with a person’s partner is an important step in ensuring safe sex. And, Fascinations Love Expert Meghan Krein has tips on how to start the conversation. “Always talk to your partner before getting intimate. Start the dialogue off positively by stating that you care about him/her so you want to protect them, and you’d also like to be protected. It’s important to ask about STDs and tell your partner about any you may carry. Take the time to learn about any issues you bring to the table so you can answer important questions and ask them as well.”

Every year Planned Parenthood health centers provide four million women, men, and teens nationwide with health information, services, and education to prevent STIs and unintended pregnancy.
