The Rochester Planned Parenthood Teen Council received the Live for Others -- Healthy Community Award for their outstanding work in reducing teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

Via Olmsted County Public Health Services:

...Olmsted County Public Health Services collected nomination forms for the 2011 Live for Others – Healthy Community Award in memory of Dr. Lyle Weed. This award recognizes people like Dr. Weed who lived by the motto, “Live for Others.” He dedicated his time and talents to improve people’s lives in Olmsted County… …the outstanding work of Teen Council reducing teen pregnancy and the incidence of sexually transmitted infections through education and advocacy has made them the winner of the 13th Annual Live for Others – Healthy Community Award in the “youth” category…

The Rochester Teen Council learns about various sexual health topics (birth control, STIs, sexual decision making, abstinence, healthy relationships) and then visits classrooms around the Rochester area, accompanied by an adult facilitator, to teach those health topics to their peers.

"We couldn’t be more proud of the work done by the Rochester Teen Council,” said PPMNS President and CEO Sarah Stoesz. “Planned Parenthood is incredibly fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of young people, each of whom are strongly committed to the health of their peers and their community,” said Stoesz.

There are Planned Parenthood Teen Councils in Rochester, the Twin Cities and Duluth.
