i might be pregnate, idk how to tell my mom without her flipping out and my dad most likely hitting me. im not with the guy whos the possible father. so i cant talk to him about it. what do i do and how do i tell my parents?

In a really tough situation like this, it’s normal to feel alone and intimidated. If you think you may be pregnant, the first step is to take a pregnancy test. You can either take a home pregnancy test or go to a health provider for one.

If you are pregnant, there’s no easy way to tell your parents. You may want to turn to another trusted adult who could give you the opportunity to rehearse what you want to say to your parents. It’s important to remember, though, that everyone has a right to feel safe in their home. Healthy families are ones with a safe and secure home life, and it is never okay for parents to hurt their children. Here are some resources that could be helpful if you feel in danger in your home:

  • 1-800-799-SAFE — a confidential hotline, to speak with a counselor in private, toll-free
  • 911 — call the police, if you feel you are in immediate danger or need help right away
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline — for information and resource listings
