I am a girl and I don’t feel anything when I have sex .. I lost my virginity last week & I didn’t bleed and it didn’t hurt .. is there something wrong with me?

There is NOTHING wrong with you! Not everybody bleeds or feels pain the first time they have vaginal (penis-in-vagina) sex.

Pain or bleeding the first time someone has vaginal sex IS common, and is caused by the stretching or tearing of your hymen (the fleshy tissue that stretches across the vaginal opening). But it definitely doesn’t happen to everyone. Everyone’s hymen is different. Many peoples’ hymens naturally have less tissue, or are already stretched out of the way from other things (like tampons), so they don’t have pain or bleeding the first time they have sex.

The inside of the vagina doesn’t have a whole lot of nerve endings either, so it’s pretty common to not feel very much just from a penis being inside of it. But sex isn’t just about avoiding pain, it’s also about pleasure! Many women find that they need to stimulate their clitoris (located towards the top of your vulva, where the inner labia meet) during sex to experience pleasure.

And we wouldn’t be Planned Parenthood if we didn’t remind you that it’s important to be using both birth control AND condoms to prevent unintended pregnancy and STDs.
