I am 17,and would like to get a breast exam. I have had pain in my breast and discharge coming from my nipples, and i cant tell if i have any lumps or not! but my mother wont make me an appointment to get checked for beast cancer which runs through both ides of my family. And i dont have insurance. Is there any way to handle this myself? how much would an exam cost out of pocket?

For some people, breast soreness and a small amount of discharge from your nipples can be a normal part of your breasts’ development, and isn’t anything to worry about. Still, you have the right idea by taking care of yourself and checking with a doctor or nurse just in case.

You can get a breast exam at your nearest Planned Parenthood health center. Many of our health centers offer this service at a reduced cost for people without insurance, and they can connect you with other affordable health care providers if you need more tests.
