Do I have to tell my gyno that I’m a lesbian?

It’s always best to be as honest as possible with your health care provider.  The better information you give your provider — especially when it comes to sensitive subjects like sex — the better your provider will be able to give you the care that you deserve.

However, not everyone feels comfortable coming out to a health care provider. If that’s the case, you may want to seek out a health care provider who is LGBTQ-friendly.

Planned Parenthood health centers are dedicated to giving women, men, and teens of all sexual orientations high quality, affordable, and sensitive health care. If you have more questions about the LGBTQ services in your area, your local Planned Parenthood health center may be able to help. You may also find a LGBT-friendly health care provider through the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
