Can you get pregnant if you have unprotected sex the day after you ovulate?

Yes. Ovulation is the point in your menstrual cycle when your ovaries release an egg to be fertilized. It generally happens about two weeks into your cycle. If you have unprotected sex within a few days of ovulation, your chances of getting pregnant are particularly high.

But it’s possible to get pregnant if you have unprotected sex at any point during your cycle. It’s even possible to get pregnant if you have sex during your period, depending on the length of your menstrual cycle. That’s why, if you don’t want to get pregnant, birth control is always important. Using a condom with another form of birth control — like the birth control pill or the IUD — is a super effective way to prevent pregnancy as well as STDs.
