Lots of things can lead to painful urination in people who have vaginas. Some common causes are:

  • Vaginitis: when your vagina or vulva has an infection or irritation.

  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): an infection in your urinary tract, including your bladder and urethra.

  • Certain STDs (like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes).

  • Problems with your kidneys (like an infection or kidney stones).

  • A reaction to soaps, perfumes, and other personal care products.

If you feel pain or burning when you pee, go to your nurse, doctor, or local Planned Parenthood health center. It’s the only way to find out exactly what’s going on, so you can get the right treatment.
