Someone asked us: Is it possible for a penis to go “too far” into a girl’s vagina?
If your partner isn’t comfortable, then it’s possible that your penis has gone “too far” into their vagina. So if someone says it’s “too far,” it’s too far.
But a penis can’t get lost inside a vagina. Vaginas are usually between 3 to 7 inches long. And penises are usually between 3 to 7 inches long when erect (hard). During sex, your penis may bump against your partner's cervix, which can be painful.
Everyone and every body is different, so checking in with each other to see how things are feeling is important. If either of you are experiencing pain during sex, take a pause to talk about it and figure out what may be causing the pain. You can then try different positions, slow down, or add more lubrication to make sure things are more comfortable for each of you.
There are also sex toys like depth-limiting rings or pelvic buffer rings that help prevent a penis from going in “too far.” These rings stimulate the penis while preventing the penis from going too deep inside the vagina. Using sex toys like this can help reduce anxiety and pain for both you and your partner so you can focus more on each other.
If sex continues to feel painful for either you or your partner, you can always contact your nearest Planned Parenthood health center to make sure everything is okay.
