How is hepatitis B spread?

Hepatitis B is very contagious. It’s passed through semen, vaginal fluids, and blood.

Hepatitis B is spread by:

having vaginal, anal, or oral sex without a condom
sharing needles to inject drugs
sharing toothbrushes, razors, or other personal hygiene tools
accidental pricks with contaminated needles

It can also be passed from mother to baby during birth.

If you think you’ve been exposed to hepatitis B, your doctor or nurse can do a blood test to see if you have it.

There’s no cure for hepatitis B, but in most cases, it goes away by itself within 4 to 8 weeks. And ask your doctor about getting the hepatitis B vaccine. For more information, check out the Hepatitis B Foundation.
