There are two very good reasons to always use a condom in addition to your birth control.

  1. Condoms and dental dams are the only way to prevent you from getting or passing on STDs. Other birth control methods don’t.

  1. While many birth control methods — like IUDs, the implant, the pill, and others — are super effective at preventing pregnancy, condoms are an extra layer of protection. Using a condom with another kind of birth control is a great way to get extra pregnancy prevention and protection against STDs. So if pregnancy is not in your plans right now, using a condom and another birth control method could be the way to go.
