100 Years Strong

Planned Parenthood’s story began nearly 100 years ago. We are the nation’s foremost provider of sexual and reproductive health care, information and advocacy.

Starting in 1929

Our history goes back to 1929 with the inception of the Maternal Health Center on Oak Street in San Francisco.

Sex Ed for Teens in 1967

The nation’s first comprehensive sex education program for teens was launched in San Francisco in 1967.

What's the Difference?

We are often asked what is the difference between giving to Planned Parenthood Northern California or the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Planned Parenthood Northern California and Planned Parenthood Federation of America are separate entities, giving you two ways to support our mission to protect health care, education, and reproductive freedom.

Giving to Planned Parenthood Northern California guarantees your dollars stay in the 20 counties we serve and directly help Planned Parenthood patients access reproductive health services, while giving to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America means half of your dollars stay in Northern California while half go to support national advocacy and education efforts. There's no wrong way to give!
