Someone asked us: I used to masturbate all the time. I just started having sex, and it takes me a really long time to come, and I think it’s because of how much I used to masturbate. I can still come easily when I masturbate, but not when I have sex. Is there a way I can fix this?
Delayed ejaculation and other ejaculation problems are common in men and other people with penises, so you’re definitely not alone.
There are several ejaculation problems that can happen to a person:
- Premature ejaculation
- Delayed ejaculation
- Retrograde ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is when you ejaculate before you want to. Delayed ejaculation is when it takes you a lot longer than you’d like to come. And retrograde ejaculation is when your semen goes into your bladder instead of out of your penis when you come.
While none of these things mean there’s something wrong with you, they can cause you a lot of stress and embarrassment. If you’re really bothered, make an appointment at your nearest Planned Parenthood health center. Delayed ejaculation can be caused by certain medications or other health problems that the Planned Parenthood staff can help you treat.
Some people may find that the way they masturbate makes it harder to come when they’re having sex with a partner. If this is the case, you can try changing the way you masturbate or masturbating less frequently so that the way you feel during sex with a partner adjusts over time. This may or may not work, which is totally normal.
