Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on the Six-Year Anniversary of Dr. Tiller's Murder:
Today marks the six-year anniversary of the tragic murder of Dr. George Tiller, who for over 30 years courageously provided critical reproductive health care to women facing some of the most difficult medical circumstances and complex pregnancies. While we are still impacted by his loss today, none are more so than those women who need quality care during a complicated pregnancy.
Dr. Tiller’s tragic murder is a reminder of the intimidation and harassment that abortion providers face far too often from opponents of safe and legal abortion. We will always be grateful for the heroic legacy of Dr. Tiller and the abortion providers across America he has inspired with his courage.
Today and everyday, our thoughts and prayers are with the Tiller family and the women and families across the country who turned to him for the critical care they needed. Dr. Tiller was a courageous hero who's legacy continues to inspire us all today.
Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable health care for women, men, and young people, as well as the nation's largest provider of sex education.
