New York, NYPlanned Parenthood has been recognized as one of Rock Health’s Top 50 in Digital Health for 2017 as the Most Tech-Friendly Provider. Planned Parenthood is revolutionizing the way people access reproductive health care and information by making it accessible through technology on a variety of innovative platforms and by reaching people who are most in need. Planned Parenthood was awarded after being nominated by the digital health community for making exceptional progress in driving resources, attention, and innovation toward a massively better health care system.

Each year fifty of the leading entrepreneurs, investors, technologists, reporters, and providers dedicated to bringing technological advancements to health care are recognized as the Top 50 in Digital Health by Rock Health, Fenwick & West, Goldman Sachs, and Square 1 Bank. This year, Planned Parenthood is recognized alongside incredible digital health leaders and organizations, including Dr. Karen DeSalvo of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Dan Burton of Health Catalyst, Marc Benioff of Salesforce, UMPC Enterprises, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Evolent Health, and others.

“For 100 years, Planned Parenthood has provided high-quality care, and we are constantly innovating in order to deliver our mission to provide care, no matter what,” said Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, Chief Medical Officer at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “Planned Parenthood is revolutionizing the way people access reproductive health care and information by making it accessible through technology on a variety of innovative platforms and reaching people most in need.”

Planned Parenthood was founded on the radical idea that women should have the information and care they need to live strong, healthy lives and fulfill their dreams. Today, Planned Parenthood is committed to providing access to quality health care for all people, no matter where they live, their race, ethnicity, or income level – no matter what. And as part of that commitment, Planned Parenthood is making sexual and reproductive health care and information easier to access than ever before:

  • Planned Parenthood makes scheduling an appointment at a health center as easy as clicking a button at nearly 500 of health centers around the country. Planned Parenthood offers same-day appointments online and has extended health center hours, which means people can get the care they need, when they need it.

  • Planned Parenthood makes sexual and reproductive health information readily available online 24/7 at plannedparenthood.org to an incredible 72 million people every year in both English and Spanish.

  • Planned Parenthood’s Chat/Text program enables young people to correspond with trained staff via online chat or text message with urgent reproductive health questions, reaching them with critical information about sex and health when they are in need of fast, confidential help. It is the largest digital sex education program in the country and supports 15,000 immediate, tailored conversations each month.

  • Earlier this year, Planned Parenthood released Spot On, a free birth control and period tracker app that helps people track and predict their periods, understand their menstrual cycle, and manage their birth control, as well as provide guidance, tips, and fun facts from Planned Parenthood experts. Over 177,000 people have downloaded the app and it has active users in 160 countries and in every state in the U.S.

  • Through telemedicine, Planned Parenthood is offering the same high-quality care someone would receive during a visit at a Planned Parenthood health center. But with technology Planned Parenthood is minimizing barriers such as time and transportation, which can prevent people from obtaining the timely health care they want and need.

    • The  Planned Parenthood Care™ app (available in Minnesota, Washington, Alaska and Idaho) allows people to talk to a Planned Parenthood provider online and face to face through a secure video consultation system to receive birth control or an STD test kit and treatment, if necessary, in the mail.

    • The Planned Parenthood Direct™ app allows people in California to order confidential STD testing kits, receive STD and UTI treatment, and birth control prescriptions through their mobile phone.

Through innovation, Planned Parenthood has increased access to reproductive health care and information and is committed to addressing an unmet need that contributes to higher rates of unintended pregnancies, STIs, and overall poorer health outcomes in the U.S. Through a multi-faceted approach to technology, throughout the country, Planned Parenthood is meeting people where they’re at and, by doing so, making access to reproductive health care and information more timely, relevant, and equitable to anyone who needs it.
