NEW YORK, NY — Planned Parenthood Federation of America is excited to announce that the organization has been selected for this year’s Shorty Award for Best Overall Facebook Presence.

For more than 100 years, Planned Parenthood has educated and informed people about their health, and the organization has continually worked to take that mission digital, meeting people where they are with the tools they need to take charge of their health. That, of course, includes Facebook, where Planned Parenthood’s long-standing goal is to share accurate, nonjudgmental sexual health information with our followers, answer their questions and give them new information in an engaging and entertaining way.

The 10th Annual Shorty Awards Brand and Organization winners were announced in Adweek and will be celebrated at an awards ceremony on April 15. The Shorty Awards, now in their 10th year, were the first to honor social media. By constantly evolving along with the changing landscape of social media, they remain the most prominent awards of its kind. The Shorty Awards recognize the most influential, popular, and culturally relevant brands, organizations, agencies, campaigns, and influencers across social media.

We’re thrilled to be honored by the Shorty Awards for our Facebook presence,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “At Planned Parenthood, we know that people need sexual and reproductive health information that’s understandable, welcoming, and engaging, as well as medically accurate — and that’s what we strive to provide on Facebook. It’s exciting to know that people of all ages can visit our Facebook page as a source for information about sexual and reproductive health. Technology has created amazing opportunities for us to reach people in different ways, and we’re continually looking for innovative approaches to get them the information and care they need to stay healthy and reach their life goals.

As the nation’s largest provider of sex education, Planned Parenthood works in schools and communities across the country to provide quality sex education programs. Each year, Planned Parenthood provides education and outreach to 1.5 million people of all ages across the U.S. and to millions more online, including on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and plannedparenthood.org.

Winners and honorees of the Shorty Awards were selected by members of the Real Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences, comprised of experts in advertising, media, entertainment, and technology. Members of the academy include Leslie Berland (CMO, Twitter), Tom Parker (CCO, Edelman), Sarah Hofstetter (CEO, 360i), Pete Krainik (founder and CEO, The CMO Club), and Bruce Henderson (CCO, Jack Morton Worldwide), among others.

Planned Parenthood has previously won Shorty Social Good Awards for its #IStandWithPP campaign in the categories for Best Multi-Platform Campaign and Best Government & Politics Campaign, a Gold Distinction in Education for the Abortion Pill & In-Clinic Abortion video series, and a Gold Distinction in Health & Fitness for the #IDefy campaign. In 2017, Planned Parenthood’s free period and birth control tracker app Spot On was selected as a Gold Honoree in the Health, Fitness, & Medical Apps category in the ninth annual Shorty Awards.  Planned Parenthood’s Instagram account was named a nominee in the Best Social: Education & Discovery category in the 19th annual Webby Awards, and its Tumblr was selected as an Official Honoree in the Social: Health & Fitness category.
