New York, NY — Planned Parenthood Federation of America is pleased to announce that its video series on consent has been named one of five nominees in the Online Video - Channels & Networks: Public Service & Activism category in the 20th Annual Webby Awards. The nomination highlights these videos as an important contribution to education on consent and a powerful resource for young people, teachers, and youth-serving professionals.

As a Webby nominee, Planned Parenthood’s video series has been selected as one of the five best in the world in its category. In addition to The Webby, Planned Parenthood’s video series is also a contender for The Webby People's Voice Award, selected by the voting public. Last year, people cast over 2.5 million votes from over 200 countries and territories worldwide. Voting is open until Thursday, April 21st, at 11:59 p.m. PST. You can vote for Planned Parenthood’s video series here.

“We are incredibly proud of our video series on consent, and are thrilled to be recognized by the Webby Awards,” said Dr. Leslie Kantor, vice president of education for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “Today’s technology makes it possible for young people looking for information to access it in multiple ways, and Planned Parenthood is committed to providing expert information on sexual health to as many people as possible, where they are online.”

Planned Parenthood’s “Consent 101” series of online videos is designed to help young people understand consent in a fun and sexy, as well as educational, way. The videos are geared for older teens and young adults (17-22), and are inclusive of diverse sexual orientations and race/ethnicities. They explain and model what consent is and what it looks like in different situations. Organizations and schools working with older high school and college-age youth are encouraged to use the videos in their work, and Planned Parenthood has developed lesson plans to accompany the videos, onconsent andmedia literacy.

“Young people should understand that consent and communication around sex are a great way to set the mood — and that consent can be part of a hot, healthy, sexual experience,” said Dr. Kantor. “YouTube is the second-largest social networking site next to Facebook, and is a great resource for ‘how-to’ videos — you’ve probably looked up a ‘how-to’ video on YouTube yourself. This series is designed to be a resource for young people looking for information on how to talk about sex with partners.”

Across the country, Planned Parenthood affiliates work in their local communities on sex education that includes important conversations about consent. Planned Parenthood affiliates provide education and outreach to 1.5 million people of all ages in schools and communities across the country.

Planned Parenthood is here for you with education, resources, and guidance on consent,” said Dr. Kantor. “As the nation’s largest provider of sex education, Planned Parenthood is committed to helping young people make good decisions and engage in healthy relationships.”

As the nation’s leading provider of reproductive health care and sex education, Planned Parenthood is developing innovative ways to use technology to get women, men, and young people the information they need to make healthy decisions and take control of their sexual health.  Planned Parenthood websites, including Planned Parenthood en Español, receive an estimated 60 million visits each year.
