Planned Parenthood Statement on Peru Court’s Ruling in Favor of Promsex, a Leading Reproductive Rights Organization

MIAMI, FLORIDA — A court in Peru has ruled against ACI Prensa, a Catholic news agency, and the Latin America director of the Population Research Institute, an anti-women’s rights organization, which disseminated malicious and false statements about Promsex, a leading reproductive health and rights organization in the country. Both entities have been ordered to rectify and remove the false articles from the news agency’s website and any other platforms where they have been circulated, and to refrain from future similar actions.

In a time of rampant attacks on women’s health and rights in the U.S., we are encouraged to see other parts of the world making advances. We are proud of our partnership with Promsex and the critical work they do defending access to vital sexual and reproductive health services and pushing back against barriers to care for women in the country.
“Reproductive health and rights organizations provide life-saving help for women and girls. This ruling is an important reminder of the significant role courts can have all over the world in advancing, or repressing, human rights. In this case, the attack on Promsex was seen for what it was – an attack on women and on those who defend their rights. The court’s ruling sets an important precedent that these attacks on women will not be tolerated.
