Focused on adolescent rights, the conference is the first convening of high-level members of the Latin American legal community to discuss adolescent sexuality in the region.

“In recent years, there has been an increase in Latin America’s use of legal mechanisms, especially courts, to advance the rights of women and young people in the region,” said Dee Redwine, Latin America regional director, Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “This conference is an opportunity for lawyers, judges, supreme court justices, advocates, United Nations officials, and others to discuss these decisions and compare success stories and lessons learned.”

Topics to be discussed include recent cases brought before regional human rights courts in Latin America, national-level supreme court decisions affecting minors at the country level and the rollout of public health guidelines in countries expanding access to sex education for young people, including unintended pregnancy and HIV prevention methods and services.
