Washington, DC — Today, House Democrats introduced HR6, the Dream and  Promise Act, in an effort to provide a permanent solution and pathway to citizenship for  undocumented immigrant youth. It would include the 800,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) who qualify for the Dream Act as well as the over 300,000 people with Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED).

Planned Parenthood calls on Congress to act now to pass the Dream and Promise Act to protect immigrant youth, individuals with TPS and DED, and their families.

Statement from Dr. Leana Wen, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

The Trump-Pence administration has put the lives of so many immigrants at risk, leaving countless people in limbo and with no means to access health care in this country.

“We must stop the administration from unraveling the avenues that help immigrants make a better life for themselves and their families. And we must formalize a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers, individuals with TPS and DED —  many of whom are part of the Planned Parenthood community and rely on Planned Parenthood for health care, just as my family did when we first came to this country. The Dream and Promise Act finally offers that pathway. We urge Congress to pass the Dream and Promise Act now to ensure these individuals and their families in this country are able to live a life free from discrimination and the fear of deportation, and have access to the health care all families need.
