Planned Parenthood: “It is profoundly irresponsible for Senators to advance this nomination.”

Washington, DC — Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court out of committee and onto the floor of the Senate.

Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

It is profoundly irresponsible for Senators to advance this nomination. Senators have ignored the voice of a sexual assault survivor, and voted to support placing Brett Kavanaugh in a position to judge women's health and rights on the highest court of the land.

“It is crystal clear that Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination should be rejected. Senators have heard compelling, courageous testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as she unequivocally named her attacker under oath. Senators have seen historically belligerent and hyper partisan behavior from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Senators have evidence — both words and rulings — that Brett Kavanaugh would dismantle the constitutional right to safe, legal abortion. A vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States is a vote against the right to safe, legal abortion; a vote against those who access health care through the Affordable Care Act; and a vote to ignore survivors of sexual violence. Survivors, women, and people around the country have been clear that they reject Brett Kavanaugh and expect their representatives to do the same.
