New York, NY—Today Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Refinery29 released a new short video from actress/model Emily Ratajkowski of Gone Girl and upcoming We Are Your Friends reminding young women of the importance of birth control and encouraging them to connect with Planned Parenthood to learn more about their birth control options. The full transcript is below.
“We’re thrilled to have both Emily and Refinery 29 helping spread the word about the importance of birth control for young women,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “When it comes to education, health, and economic opportunities for women, access to birth control has entirely transformed this country over the last 50 years. At Planned Parenthood, we offer the full range of contraceptive options and information to help each patient make an informed decision about which method is best for her, and we want every woman in America to be educated about her birth control options and have access to her method of choice without barriers based on cost, stigma or any other factor.”
“Refinery29 is committed to women’s empowerment and providing information for every part of their lives – including health care and reproductive rights,” said Mikki Halpin, editorial director at Refinery29. “We are excited to participate in this conversation with Planned Parenthood to help our audience make informed decisions about their bodies and personal freedoms, and it’s great to have Emily on board as a spokesperson for the cause.”
The 40-second spot is part of Planned Parenthood’s ongoing work to deepen public understanding of how access to birth control has transformed women’s lives and leverage that public awareness into support for efforts to protect and expand access to birth control. Every year, Planned Parenthood provides family planning counseling and contraception to 2.7 million patients at approximately 700 health center across the country. Planned Parenthood always provides patients with information about the benefits and risks of any specific birth control method and answers any questions they may have when helping each woman choose the method that’s best for her. Birth control not only reduces unintended pregnancy, it is a ladder for economic advancement and educational attainment for women and a driver of positive health outcomes.
