NEW YORK- Today, actress Scarlett Johansson will be honored at Variety’s 2016 Power of Women event in Los Angeles for her humanitarian efforts and support of Planned Parenthood. She’s also featured on the front cover of this week’s Variety magazine.

“We’re thrilled that Scarlett Johansson is being honored for her steadfast support of Planned Parenthood,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “Planned Parenthood turns 100 years strong this weekend, and as we launch our second century we couldn't be more proud to have Scarlett by our side to help ensure that access to health care and rights is a reality for all people.”

Over the years, Johansson has been an outspoken advocate of Planned Parenthood, from sharing her story about being a Planned Parenthood patient in Cosmo, to designing a  limited-edition Planned Parenthood Action Fund T-Shirt encouraging people to vote, to filming a video about why she stands with Planned Parenthood, explaining the devastating impact that congressional assaults would have on millions of women who rely on Planned Parenthood health centers for basic preventive health care.

"I am extremely proud to be honored for my work with this incredible organization,” said Scarlett Johansson. “Planned Parenthood was there for me when I needed care, and I'll continue to stand with them to ensure that everyone has access to the care they need."

Johansson also recorded audio that played in Planned Parenthood health centers across the country, encouraging listeners to enroll in new, more affordable insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act and she made young women, preventive care and Planned Parenthood a central theme in her speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

“Scarlett is a longtime and passionate Planned Parenthood supporter.  She always makes herself available to speak out about women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, no matter how busy she is with her career,” said Caren Spruch, Director of Arts and Entertainment Engagement at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “We’re so grateful for her activism.”

Planned Parenthood partners with the entertainment community to educate and engage the public about reproductive health and education.
