Charges Filed by Johnson County District Attorney

Overland Park, KS — Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline has filed 107 baseless charges against Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri. This outrageous attack comes only three months after Comprehensive Health was exonerated by the Kansas Attorney General’s office.

“Planned Parenthood is a vital resource for our community and for women and families throughout Kansas and Missouri. We are a trusted source of health care and education for thousands of women, men and children. For more than 70 years, women have relied on Planned Parenthood to keep themselves and their families safe and healthy,” stated Peter Brownlie, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.

“Phill Kline continues to further his political ambition of making abortion illegal by using unethical tactics in his role as district attorney. No health care provider should be threatened with felony convictions simply because elected officials oppose legal abortion,” Brownlie continued.

The records and documents on which Kline is relying have been fully reviewed by Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison, who announced in June that after “an objective, unbiased, and thorough examination of the numerous documents and medical records,” no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing was found.

“We cannot allow anti-choice politicians to harass and intimidate women or doctors in Kansas. Planned Parenthood operates in accord with state and federal law and will continue to fight to protect access to safe, professional medical care, free from political or government intrusion,” Brownlie said.

“This attack on women’s rights must end,” concluded Brownlie. “Planned Parenthood will meet this attack head-on and we are certain we will be fully exonerated yet again. This matter is in the hands of the court, and Planned Parenthood has immense confidence in the integrity of an independent judiciary in Johnson County and the good judgment of the Kansas citizens. Meanwhile, we will continue to provide confidential health care and education to women and families across Kansas and Missouri.”
