New York, NY — A recently released film, Our Bodies, Our Doctors, focuses on the abortion providers and health center staff across the country who work every day to provide safe, legal abortion to patients. It shows them working to provide care as politicians attempt to intervene in personal medical decisions or block access to abortion entirely. The film puts a spotlight on the commitment of abortion providers to ensure their patients can access high-quality, nonjudgmental care, and examines the stigma they face when providing basic health care.

Statement from Caren Spruch, Senior Director of Arts & Entertainment Engagement at Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“Abortion providers are passionate, concerned, skilled people who believe in the health, well-being, and dignity of every patient. They trust and care for patients every day — and Our Bodies, Our Doctors showcases their compassion and dedication. "

“The staff and medical professionals who are there for their patients — even in the face of continuing political attacks — deserve our support, and to have their stories told. With access to abortion under constant attack, it’s more important than ever that we recognize the hard work and commitment of abortion providers to care for their patients.”

Abortion is a safe and legal medical procedure. Nearly one in four women in America will have an abortion by the age of 45, and Planned Parenthood knows that every individual's personal decision about their pregnancy should be respected and valued. Support for access to safe, legal abortion is now at a record high, as nearly eight in 10 Americans support abortion rights.

While Planned Parenthood did not partner with the filmmakers of Our Bodies Our Doctors, nor does the film feature Planned Parenthood health centers or staff, Planned Parenthood supports artists who create compassionate, accurate portrayals of what it’s like to access reproductive health care and the professionals who work hard to provide reproductive health care every day. As the nation’s leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate, Planned Parenthood is committed to providing our patients with the high-quality health care they need — including safe, legal abortion — and will never stop fighting to ensure that abortion remains safe and legal across the country. Patients deserve accurate information about all of their options to make their own, fully informed health care decisions, and Planned Parenthood works to ensure that if a patient decides to have an abortion, they get high-quality, compassionate care.
