WASHINGTON D.C. - Planned Parenthood Federation of America condemned the budget resolution approved by the House of Representatives today, saying it is another demonstration of Congressional Republican leadership’s effort to demean and devalue women’s health and lives. The House budget contrasts sharply from budgets proposed by House Democrats, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Progressive Caucus that would actually advance women and families.

Statement of Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“Since day one, the Trump administration and GOP Congressional leaders have shown a fundamental disdain for the reality of women’s health and lives. They want to take women in America backwards, and that’s exactly what this budget resolution does. This in sharp contrast to the alternative budgets introduced by House Democrats, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Progressive Caucus providing a clear vision of a bright future for women and families.

“Rather that enacting policies that take us backward, the public wants our leaders to  build on the tremendous progress made in this country when it comes to access to health care, which is fundamental to economic success. When women have opportunities instead of barriers, communities get stronger and so does this country. We can’t rebuild this country and our economy while leaving more than half the country behind.”
