Planned Parenthood offers a variety of education programs throughout western Washington to ensure that our community members receive reliable information about sexuality and reproductive health.

Typical presentations include information and activities on one or more of these topics:

·         Abstinence ·         HIV/AIDS ·         Sexual Anatomy and Physiology
·         Bullying

·         Pregnancy

·         Sexual Decision Making
·         Dating Relationships ·         Pregnancy Options ·         Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention
·         Dating Violence ·         Pregnancy Prevention ·         Teen Pregnancy
·         Gender and Orientation ·         Puberty

Our professional community health educators have been delivering classroom presentations since the 1960s, tailoring the content to the needs of each school. Teen Council peer educators also participate in facilitating these relevant and well-received programs. Presentations can be previewed by teachers or parents, and outlines can be provided for review. Our programs:

  • Contain factual, up-to-date and medically accurate information, conforming to the Washington State Healthy Youth Act.
  • Assist teachers in meeting the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) in Science, Communications, Health and Fitness.
  • Work as stand-alone presentations or as supplements to existing curricula.
  • Can be adapted to meet the needs of specific groups, grade levels and classrooms.
  • Are designed with clear learning objectives
  • Are always interactive and fun!

Theater as a Teaching Tool

Interactive theater is used by educators and Teen Council facilitators to empower youth in identifying and creating solutions to problems about sexuality they face most frequently. Teen Council members set up a scene and then invite audience members to come up and act out their ideas on stage. Topics for interactive theatre presentations must be relevant to the group and have included:

  • Refusing sex
  • Bullying
  • Dating Violence

Locations

Sexuality education can happen anywhere but our formal presentations are most frequently conducted in:

  • Classrooms (typically grades 5-12)
  • Youth-serving organizations (Boys & Girls Clubs, community centers, scout groups, etc.)
  • Churches, synagogues and other places of worship
  • Jails and juvenile justice centers
  • Hospitals and recovery centers
