Emergency Contraception (EC)

Request an Appointment

It's just that — contraception. EC is used to prevent pregnancy within 5 days of having unprotected sex. The sooner you take it the better. EC can be used if

  • you didn't use any birth control
  • the condom broke
  • you missed two or more birth control pills or you started your pack late
  • your diaphragm slipped
  • you missed your birth control shot or
  • you had sex when you weren't expecting to.

EC cannot interrupt or disrupt an established pregnancy and should not be confused with mifepristone (RU-486). Emergency contraception is also known as the "morning-after pill."

How do I get it?
EC is now available over-the-counter. Call Planned Parenthood for the health center nearest you: 1-800-230-PLAN or order it on the Online Health Center.

If Planned Parenthood is not convenient, call the Emergency Contraception Hotline:1-888-NOT-2-LATE
It's free and confidential and will tell you where you can go for help.
Remember ... You only have 5 DAYS to act!
