Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Write a letter to the editor: Publishing a letter in your local newspaper is a great way to educate people about the importance of access to Emergency Contraception, quality sexuality education, or the issue of your choice! We need good letter-writers to respond to inaccurate or biased reporting and proactively put our issues out there in papers across the Commonwealth. You’ll receive talking points, letter-writing tips and a Planned Parenthood letter-writing coach to help you!

Phonebanking: Phonebanking is one of the most important volunteer tasks Planned Parenthood offers. When we phonebank, we call supporters from around the state to update them on the work Planned Parenthood is doing, ask them to take action on a critical issue, or update their email address. Phonebanking is also a great way for us to keep our supporter lists clean: we can find out who has moved, changed their email address, or does not want to hear from us any longer. Phonebanking can be done at the office or from home. If you would like to participate, you will receive training, a phone script, and a list of names to call. Please contact Courtney Jones if you would like to receive a list to call from home.

Plan a Movie Night: We've got great movies that can help you start a conversation in your community. You can plan a movie night at a local library, place of worship, or your home. We've got lots of helpful tips on how to organize a movie night event.

Join a Pro-Choice Phone Tree: Our pro-choice phone trees are used to generate phone calls to legislators about bills and recruit volunteers for pro-choice activities. The phone trees are activated once/month, except during the General Assembly Session (Jan-Mar) when we need to generate a lot of phone calls to target legislators!

Join a Community Action Team: Action Teams coordinate local pro-choice events like community outreach, meetings with legislators, house parties, rallies and other opportunities for pro-choice people to get together and take action!

Help Stuff Envelopes for an important mailing: Planned Parenthood relies on donations from our friends in the community. Help is always needed preparing and mailing donation requests. If you would like to help, please contact Katrina Comolli at development@vlpp.org.

Help Out in our Clinic: Help our clinic staff answer phones, file charts and give our clients great health care and customer service.

If you have ideas for a project or would like to help organize an event, please contact Courtney Jones at Courtney.Jones@ppfa.org or (804) 355-4358 ext. 14.
